Basement Spa Sanctuary

These clients had an unfinished, cold, dark basement with plenty of space, and plenty of potential. They wanted to have an escape that didn’t feel like a basement, but more like a warm, cozy, airy spa—one where you could also watch TV or even do some work.

Design

This is one of those projects where the pictures truly tell the entire story. We installed Douglas Fir wood planks on the low ceiling to create a sense of coziness, balancing it with pops of color for personality and light-colored flooring to keep things feeling airy and open. A modern fireplace serves as the focal point, with split-face stone on the wall and a walnut floating hearth providing natural, earthy touches. We also helped convert the dim laundry room into a luxurious spa bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub, heated tile and more, stacking the washer and dryer behind an attractive turquoise barn door.

"Thanks to Amy, we now enjoy a warm, light, stylish space that makes you forget you are downstairs. … I practically live in my basement now."
