Modern Craftsman Charm

This home had great bones—as most Craftsman houses do—but it simply didn’t fit the lifestyle of its owners.

Rooms were divided and secluded, giving the entire home a blocky feel that completely lacked flow. This included the kitchen, which also suffered from insufficient storage and a dearth of space for cooking and food prep.

It was less than ideal for entertaining, and outside of some stunning beams and classic trim, much of the home felt dated. Our mission was to open up these spaces to make them airy and functional, adding sophistication while enhancing the original character and charm.

Design

A completely redesigned kitchen is now the centerpiece of the home—it is bright, open, inviting, and perfectly suited for cooking, gathering, and connecting. The perimeter of the space is fully utilized for storage and work surfaces, and a variety of thoughtful touches maximize usability yet maintain a refined aesthetic. Power outlets mounted under the cabinets preserve the clean look of the backsplash, and a platform for the stand mixer extends from a cabinet when opened, providing a temporary work station that disappears neatly after use. Different zones in the kitchen are designed for different tasks, including baking, washing, and general preparation. The entire space feels brighter, thanks to additional windows. As always, the most eye-catching feature is the copper range hood, which adds significant visual interest and texture.

As part of the entire home overhaul, a new mudroom was added, as well as a casual gathering area alongside a dry bar that offers a built-in beverage refrigerator and storage for glassware.

The redesigned closets provide efficient storage, and the bathroom adjacent to the kitchen was modernized to reflect the new vibe of the rest of the home.

These once compartmentalized spaces now have a natural flow and coexist in seamlessly connected unity.
