Organic Industrial Refinement

This Seattle couple loves to entertain, and they happened to have the perfect space for it—an empty room with a magnificent view of Puget Sound, as well as an adjacent deck just outside. The rest of the home has a modern, industrial vibe, so it was important to create something with a warm and rustic feel that still blended well with that overall aesthetic.
Design
We opened up the exterior wall to maximize the view, added bi-fold windows that open up the space and built a counter to allow easy mingling between guests both inside and out. Reclaimed wood tiles define the bar area, which includes display shelving for the clients’ glassware collection, along with a draft setup to keep the beer flowing from beloved local breweries. We also made the narrow, stark stairwell—something seen from all areas of the house—feel more integrated by painting it the same dark gray as the rest of the home. Eclectic local artwork was added as well to reflect the couple’s love of art, colors and textures. That ceiling fixture is a piece of art in and of itself!
